First Crew Back from Meelon Fire

Rural’s overnight crew returned Tuesday morning after spending the night maintaining and strengthening containment lines.

Crew leader Mitch, along with Andy, Bevan and Steveo left Monday at 5pm after less than 90 minutes notice. They were bussed up to crew the Dunsborough 4.4.

Working in “mountain goat” country, the truck and its driver were well tested. There was a lot of use of the static hoses and the monitor as they blacked out along the containment lines. The Salvos provided catering and the sector commanders and task force leaders got high marks.

Pete left at 6 this morning to join a Dunsborough crew.

The fire started early Monday and has burned over 1,250 hectares. Around 150 firefighters were working overnight. Mellon is roughly 10k southeast of Pinjarra

There will be training as normal Tuesday night.
