Meelup Fire January 2022

January 2022 was a month of action for Yallingup Rural so we are playing catch up with posts to News/Events.
The fire started in Curtis Bay on 10th January, spread to Meelup and was heading on to Eagle Bay but it was able to be contained at Wise Winery.

Because the fire started at night it was not possible to call in air support and the ground crews were faced with the full challenge of containment. Firefighters worked extremely hard to contain/control the fire before it could jump Cape Naturaliste  Rd / Eagle Bay Rd.

Fortunately, the efforts were successful and, although there was extensive damage to the bush, no property damage was sustained.

Captain Matt Muir praised what was a huge effort by the crews at Yallingup Rural, other local Brigades from the City of Busselton and other agencies and Brigades that came to assist from other areas. “It was an amazing collaborative feat considering the fuel loads, topography and time of the fire,” he said. “Everyone should be very proud of the way they conducted themselves and all got in to get the job done in making the community safe”
