Geoff Jones Memorial at Yallingup Rural Fire Brigade

Geoff Jones, who passed away early last November, was a long-time Fire Control Officer at Yallingup Rural and DCFCO forย the City of Busselton for over a decade. He was an instrumental stalwart in getting Yallingup Rural โ€œon the mapโ€. He lobbied hard to acquire the first heavy truck for the Brigade and the Fire Shed, which we have now at Caves Rd. Geoffโ€™s biggest feature was his character which left a huge impact and motivation on everyone that worked with him. With the agreement of Geoff’s wife Anne, a small ceremony was held for Geoff at the Fire Station on Caves Road where this simple memorial now stands. The event was attended by other FCOs, DFES crew and personnel from local brigades.

Wardan Aboriginal Centre Commissioning 9th July 2022

The commissioning of the recently installed fire mitigation works and infrastructure for the Wardan Aboriginal Center at Injidup was held last Saturday. Support and funding for the improvements were provided by Lotterywest, the City of Busselton and the Injidup Resident’s Association.

Meelup Fire January 2022

January 2022 was a month of action for Yallingup Rural so we are playing catch up with posts to News/Events.
The fire started in Curtis Bay on 10th January, spread to Meelup and was heading on to Eagle Bay but it was able to be contained at Wise Winery.

Because the fire started at night it was not possible to call in air support and the ground crews were faced with the full challenge of containment. Firefighters worked extremely hard to contain/control the fire before it could jump Cape Naturaliste ย Rd / Eagle Bay Rd.

Fortunately, the efforts were successful and, although there was extensive damage to the bush, no property damage was sustained.

Captain Matt Muir praised what was a huge effort by the crews at Yallingup Rural, other local Brigades from the City of Busselton and other agencies and Brigades that came to assist from other areas. “It was an amazing collaborative feat considering the fuel loads, topography and time of the fire,” he said. “Everyone should be very proud of the way they conducted themselves and all got in to get the job done in making the community safeโ€

Puzey Road Fire December 2021

We haven’t reported on ALL the call-outs in December because of the workload and we don’t always have time to collect photo shots when the crews are on the fireground. As was feared, December was a pretty busy time and we are adding as the last post for 2021, the tree, grass and scrub fire at Puzey Road, Wilyabrup.
The fire was contained and extinguished.

Bringing the Fire to the Fighters

Tilly Road Fire December 2021

The expression ‘no rest for the wicked’ came to mind when, at the same time as work was going on to battle the Calgardup Fire, a call-out was issued for a blaze at Tilly Road in Yallingup.

Sometimes the road in (or out!) was not a straightforward as one would like.
