Geoff Jones, who passed away early last November, was a long-time Fire Control Officer at Yallingup Rural and DCFCO for the City of Busselton for over a decade. He was an instrumental stalwart in getting Yallingup Rural “on the map”. He lobbied hard to acquire the first heavy truck for the Brigade and the Fire Shed, which we have now at Caves Rd. Geoff’s biggest feature was his character which left a huge impact and motivation on everyone that worked with him. With the agreement of Geoff’s wife Anne, a small ceremony was held for Geoff at the Fire Station on Caves Road where this simple memorial now stands. The event was attended by other FCOs, DFES crew and personnel from local brigades.

The commissioning of the recently installed fire mitigation works and infrastructure for the Wardan Aboriginal Center at Injidup was held last Saturday. Support and funding for the improvements were provided by Lotterywest, the City of Busselton and the Injidup Resident’s Association.

We haven’t reported on ALL the call-outs in December because of the workload and we don’t always have time to collect photo shots when the crews are on the fireground. As was feared, December was a pretty busy time and we are adding as the last post for 2021, the tree, grass and scrub fire at Puzey Road, Wilyabrup.
The fire was contained and extinguished.

The expression ‘no rest for the wicked’ came to mind when, at the same time as work was going on to battle the Calgardup Fire, a call-out was issued for a blaze at Tilly Road in Yallingup.

Sometimes the road in (or out!) was not a straightforward as one would like.
