Summer Brace Fire

On Friday 6th February DFES issued a call out at 01.54 am to a tree/grass/shrub fire at Summer Brace.
Volunteers from Yallingup Rural and our sister brigade, Yallingup Coastal, responded swiftly to quell the spread. Coastal were first on the scene and already had the flames mainly under control when our Rural team arrived. The work, however, was far from over. As we have previously reported, a vital part of dealing with a bush fire is the prevention of re-ignition, and the teams were fully deployed throughout the night, ensuring a complete ‘blackout’ of the area.

The efforts of the Brigade’s most recent training exercises were put to good use in the efficient connection of different sizes of hoses to penetrate up to 100 metres from the trucks, as well as in the use of colour-coded warning tapes; in this case, to identify where further work was needed on a tree still smouldering.

Heavy Machinery support was called and supplied by City of Busselton to track and contain the fire area on the southern side.

Food and provisions for the firefighters were delivered with the kind assistance of the City of Busselton rangers.
Our team returned to the Yallingup Rural Fire Station on Caves Road at midday, having completed the job to satisfaction.
