Boddington Fire

Our Brigade, Yallingup Rural, receives support from, and gives support to our sister Brigades when the call goes out. This happened on Monday, 29th December 2025, when a major fire at Boddington needed extra resources and YRVBFB Fire Control Officer, Mark Fisher, contacted brigade members for volunteers to relieve the weary crews who had been fighting the fire.

Blacking out is a major part of dealing with a blaze. After the intense flames have been brought under control, meticulous attention must be paid to extinguishing all remaining traces of smouldering embers, especially in hot, dry, and windy conditions. Re-ignition of an  “extinguished”  fire is a real risk.

Two of our volunteers, Mike Gray and Andy Jones, both of whom had already been involved in the Quindalup fire on Christmas day, just four days earlier, stepped up again and set off at 8.20 a.m. on the Monday.

The YRVBFB 3.4 heavy-duty truck picked up a member of the Sussex VBFB to augment the crew. They then proceeded to meet up with the 3.4 truck from the Vasse Brigade and travelled to the fire ground, where they were swiftly deployed on blacking out duties with other Brigades for the rest of the day.

The team overnighted at Boddington mine site camp, returning to the fire ground at 8.00 a.m. the next morning for further blacking out.
With the job well done, the team returned to the Yalls Rural Fire Station after a three-hour drive, and were able to sign off duty on Tuesday at 3.45 p.m.
